Estonia. Marko Knaps, 22, was 1.5 miles out in sea and in the course of transporting an aircraft bomb to a safety zone when he failed to respond to his colleagues' routine signals, according to a Defense Forces press release.
Another diver found Knaps unconscious at 23 meters below the surface. Upon being brought to the surface, Knaps lacked vital signs. Colleagues began resuscitation immediately and ambulance workers took over once the group reached the shore.
Knaps was born in 1989. He was a conscript at the Tallinn Naval Base from 2010 to 2011, after which he joined the minehunter division on the Sakala, for which he has been a diver since August 2011.
